As women get older and begin to go through perimenopause – the ten years leading to menopause – their hormonal levels change and this can lead to a whole manner of symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, palpitations, insomnia and lack of libido… not to mention the psychological effect of the natural process of getting older.
To listen to the media, perimenopause and menopause are reported on almost as though they are some kind of disease rather than a naturally occurring vents in a women’s life. Little wonder then that if you are reading this, you may be wary and confused about this important period in your life.

Things don’t have to be that way though The menopause is inevitable, a natural progression most women have to go through, but the common symptoms we associate with the hormonal changes are anything but inevitable if you take brave steps and act early. You don’t have to suffer from those symptoms, nor do you have to necessarily go on chemical hormones that might alleviate some of them in the short term, but may also cause longer term health issues. Diet and lifestyle are crucial to a healthy, largely symptom-free menopause, but that journey has to start as soon as you can.
I can help you through this crucial time, both with one to one and group sessions aimed at women passing through the perimenopause. These take in a wide range of issues and look at the wider implications of hormonal imbalance in women, including a range of conditions that are associated with the perimenopause and menopause such as osteoporosis, breast cancer and psychological issues.
In my one to one sessions, I look at all aspects of your lifestyle that may be having an effect on the delicate balance of hormones, which when upset can lead to some of those symptoms mentioned earlier. I’ve undertaken special training to help women going through the perimenopause and can suggest food and lifestyle medicine interventions that can help mediate symptoms.
If you are suffering particularly badly, I can also offer testing for hormonal status so we can super-targeted in those interventions to help give you the best possible chance to face the future with a spring in your step.
